Andrew Radford's Singapore Success

Andrew Radford returned to Batemans Bay last week after wowing them at the Asia Pacific Autism Conference held in Singapore. His trip started with a good omen as he was picked up in a Mercedes Benz taxi (Andrew’s favourite car) to travel to the Conference. Andrew impressed the audience with his presentation on growing up with autism and fielded some challenging questions from conference delegates. His movie and talk aligned very well with the conference theme of ‘Thriving with autism’. Andrew reported that his highlights included networking with other people with lived experience of autism and making some great contacts.
The conference attracted 1800 attendees from over 33 countries, the largest of its kind ever held in the Asia Pacific region. Event organisers created specific spaces where people with autism would feel comfortable. There was a social space that offered room to network, chat and eat different types of food, and a quiet chill out room equipped with sensory resources like theraputty and lava lamps to help with emotional regulation.
Andrew was so busy it took him nearly a week to have a swim in the hotel pool. I’m hoping we can soon share a video of his experiences in Singapore. Onwards and upwards Andrew!
